Trust me. The world is real-time. We, as compute scientists and GIScientists need new tools, techniques, libraries and algorithms to deal with increasing amounts of streamed “spatial” data coming from diverse sources. Being able to properly handle the spatial and temporal dimensions of streaming data represents an exciting and new research avenue for GIS with impact in multiple application domain where the real-time nature of data collection, analysis, visualisation and decision making matters a lot.
