#FIRUJICIÈNCIA 2019: a greenhouse with #SUCRE4Kids
Last January, we announced that the first version of SUCRE4Kids project has ended (http://geotec.uji.es/2019/01/22/sucre4kids-is-coming-to-end-as-it-is-now-stem/) because we are now undergoing a drastic rebuild of the tool, the hardware, and the design of new learning activities to deliver the second version by the end of 2019. Therefore, we thought that post was the last one for the first version of SUCRE4Kids. We were wrong, fortunately.
The last intervention with the original version of SUCRE4Kids was really exciting for several reasons. We attended for the third consecutive year the Science Fair called FirUJICiència held at the UJI in which students from 6 to 18 years present science projects to the audience (+3000). Like last year (see 2018 post), GEOTEC had a booth in FirUJICiència to show up SUCRE4Kids with real examples. Unlike last year, we were not behind the booth but students from the IES Torre del Rei (Orpesa), who developed a greenhouse project with SUCRE4Kids as a result of a project-based learning activity in classroom over the past two months. All students who participated in this activity explained the project to peers and audience, including the Rector who visited the booth and was really interested.
At GEOTEC we are really proud of that result and happy to see the students were really motivated and committed to the development of the project. The students felt that they have produced something interesting that it deserved to be explained and showed to everyone. We thank the teachers, Begonya and Judith, who spent several hours to make this project a reality. Without their willingness and supervision in classroom, we would not have made the greenhouse project a successful reality.
A year ago, Begonya and Judith browsed our FirUJICiència 2018 stand to learn more about the project. A year later, their students are at the stand explaining the project they both imagined when they say SUCRE4Kids for the first time. Happy ending
