@PROGRAMASUCRE approach to rural areas – @GEOTECUJI with science dissemination at Vilafranca
Vilafranca is a municipality of about 3,000 inhabitants in the province of Castellón. It’s is located on a plateau at 1,125 masl, surrounded by some nearby mountains at 1,500 m.
On October 21 and 22, Vilafranca was one of the venues, simultaneously with other villages in the Valencian Community, of the international congress Smart Villages 2022, which brough together researchers adn policy makers from diverse disciplines to debate proposals for smart village models to combat depopulation processes and advance public services linked to the implementation of new technologies. Among others, the Càtedra de Bretxa Digital i Territori of the Universitat Jaume I de Castelló was one of its organizers.
In that context, SUCRE was invited to run a Sucre4Stem workshop to local kids aged between 10 and 12 years on Saturday morning (22 October). The workshop took place in the excellent Matilde Escuder Public Library of Vilafranca , which serves as a social center for the inhabitants of Vilafranca too. It was a marvellous experience for us, GEOTEC, to bring the values of SUCRE4Stem — computational thinking & programming — to this small community of enthusiastic learners!
On a final note, we were interviewed by the local TV….We greatly appreciate how well the SUCRE project was explained and synthesized in less than 3 minutes by local journalists. Thank you Villafranca!
