I am Eliza Shrestha student of Masters in Geospatial Technologies working on my final thesis in “Data validation and Quality Assessment of VGI Road Network of Castellon for Emergency Evacuation Route Planning“. As a part of preparing the OSM database of Castellón. I am planning to organize a mapathon named ”Let’s Make Castellon Data Better” on November 14th, 2018 on the day of World GIS Day. The whole idea to organize the mapathon is to make the OSM data of Castellon better and correct.
OSM Data are created by volunteers and is free to use by everyone. There are many active mappers in Castellon making the Castellon OSM data richer. Although Castellon is almost mapped, Some errors still exists. Have you ever noticed the cycleways are not fully mapped or the there are some errors in turns restriction or the number of lane is not mentioned?
Maps place a vital role, especially during an emergency situation. Even a single minute can be precious during an emergency. Proper Transportation routes and network information is a must for emergency evacuation during a disaster. Emergency Services like hospitals, fire evacuation, police are important to be mapped accurately.
Have you ever been misguided by the map?
Or
Have you ever had the power to create your own map?
Or
Are you concerned to help to create disaster preparedness plan?
Then Please be there on November 14th.
Detail information of the mapathon is as follows:
What will be Mapping?
We are going to map if there are any missing features to be mapped in Castellon as well we are going to validate the data of Castellon. Our main target of the mapathon is to prepare the road network better. We would be validating if the tags in the OSM are properly mentioned. E.g. The cycleway is clearly mapped as cycleway or the highway turn restriction are clearly stated. We would be also mapping important emergency services like police station, hospital as well as public buildings.
What Do We Need?
Just a laptop (you must bring your own with you), a mouse and enthusiasm (mouse isn’t absolutely necessary but makes the mapping A LOT faster).
Where is it?
Mapathon will be held in Information and Mathematics building First floor Room no TI1021SM see below to see the venue on OpenStreetMap.
What do I do now?

I am looking forward to seeing you there
