ERMES project: mid-term review meeting (M18)
This week (4-10 October) is the Space Week around the globe. And the European Sentinel series of operational EO satellites is increasingly playing an important role in the Space field. Once it is fully launched and working, it is estimated that ESA’s Sentinel satellites will deliver around 10 Tb of new data every day, with a total of around 20,000 Tb by 2020. That’s a lot. The ERMES project is already using environmental data delivered by the Sentinel series of EO satellites to improve crop monitoring at regional level. The ERMES consortium and GEOTEC team demonstrated an operational web-based prototype for rice crop monitoring at regional level during the mid-term review meeting (M18, September 2015) that took place in Milano. The tool is accessible online, and also as a demo video. The tool is indeed a real example of using Sentinel data for operational applications and for the generation of crop monitoring information.
