Carlos Granell summer research stay at the University of New Brunswick, NB, #Canada @UNB
Our colleague Carlos Granell is doing a researy stay in Canada. Here his first impressions
I am very grateful for the warm welcome at the University of New Brunswick, NB, Canada. Monica Wachowicz and her team in People in Motion Lab have been very kind and have facilitated a smooth settle-in in Fredericton. They are doing amazing things to extract value of big data being generated by the Internet of Things in digital cities. During my stay here (1 Jul – 15 Aug 2019), I will try to find synergies between People in Motion and GEOTEC, as both are clearly working in complementary things. I strongly believe that the sum of collaboration will definitively lead to better results and research than that of the individual groups. I am especially interested in exploring the conceptual artifact of Mobility Neighborhood in real-time stream analytics, along with the use of space-time varying graphs for modeling places and spatio-temporal relationships in a network. Could we get rid of the conceptualisation of layer and move to graph model in GIScience? I am pretty sure that graph models can make a great splash in many real-work scenarios like the one in the SyMptOMS project .
Of course, IÂ intend to spread the word about reproducible research practices (https://o2r.info/reproducible-agile/) and to promote the author guidelines for AGILE reproducible papers
Thanks for having me in Fredericton. Will also try to discover the beauty of the city of Fredericton and its outskirts!
