3 Marias & 1 Ada, female examples at @geotecUJI #11Feb #11febUJI
For the second year GeotecUJI celebrated The international day of Women and Girls in Science 11Feb. This year the focus was put in 4 female scientists from different countries and disciplines. The talk started with ourselves as examples of Scientists and we explained what a person working in a GIS environment does. Afterwards, we talked about Maria Sybilla Merian (Entomologist), MarÃa Blasco (Biologist), Ada Lovelace (Mathematician) and Mary Anning (Paleontologist) as examples of extraordinary (first girls) women doing extraordinary things.
1st year primary students at Penyagolosa Primary school (Burriana, Castellón) learnt a little about Science, no matter if a male researcher or female researcher carries it out . As always, the best thing for them is the present we gave them. This year his/her personal Scientist notebook and a pen. We have to talk seriously to UJI to design merchandising particularly addressed to children.
This day is starting to be addictive for us! Next year, more!
