#EO4GEO project innovative set of #tools presented at #EOSummit
As introduced in a previous post, last week #EOSummit took place virtually. It has been two days of showcasing the last developments and advancements the EO4GEO project has reached since its start in 2018.
Occupational profiles for the GI*EO sector have been created, the update of the Body of Knowledge for Geographic Information Science and Technology is on-going, the creation of educational offers and training materials for GI*EO are the next tasks to develop… and all this in the middle of a pandemia that forced us to reinvent ourselves and keep moving forward, despite of the not very auspicious atmosphere.
From @geotecUJI we are particularly proud of the outcomes we are producing, called the innovative set of tools. A short recap of them and their main use could be seen following these two links (link1 and link2). In the #EOSummit, and since it was the intention to follow a practical approach to see real use cases and real products, the tools UJI developed were widely used.
Here a list of UJI tools, and in which session(s) they were used:
- Occupational profile tool to create occupational profiles in the EO*GI sector, was showcased at “Real-world problems and work processes as starting point for case-based learning scenarios” and “How could companies make use of BoK and tools: Occupational Profile Tool and Job Offer Tool (demonstration of a real case)”
- Job offer tool to create job offers and internships, possibly based on occupational profiles, was showcased at “How could companies make use of BoK and tools: Occupational Profile Tool and Job Offer Tool (demonstration of a real case)”
- Curriculum design tool to create, edit and find EO & GI educational offer, was showcased at “How to design curricula based on the work processes modelled. Curriculum Development in different steps for academic and vocational training”
- BoK matching tool to compare two (annotated) BoK resources, was showcased at “How could companies make use of BoK and tools: Occupational Profile Tool and Job Offer Tool (demonstration of a real case)”
- BoK visualizer (or Find in BoK tool) to search and navigate graphically or textually in the BoK, was showcased at “The Body of Knowledge as the basis for curriculum design and other activities. What will you find in the BoK for GI*EO (examples and demonstration with real cases)”
During the session “How could companies make use of BoK and tools: Occupational Profile Tool and Job Offer Tool (demonstration of a real case)”, Estefanía Aguilar-Moreno and Sven Casteleyn, both from #geotecUJI acted as Moderator and Speaker, respectively. During this session and after an EO industry overview given by Monica Miguel-Lago (EARSC), Sven presented Occupational profile and Job offer tools, and introduced the early prototype of the BoK matching tool. Giacomo Martirano (Epsilon Italia) demonstrate a real use case that used the three of the tools Sven’s demoed.
Since the question about the availability of EO4GEO tools was posed in different sessions, we would like to inform you that the tools have passed the first phase of testing performed by EO4GEO project partners and they are still being extended for further functionality and refinement. Additionally, we are awaiting a new release of the Body of Knowledge, which is foreseen in July 2020, before releasing the tools to the general public. Once done, a next phase of testing will be open for external testers. We will keep you informed about that! Nevertheless, currently all tools are accessible in view mode at www.eo4geo-uji.es, and we are gathering your comments or interest as testers at eo4geo@gmail.com or by the “Get involved” section at http://www.eo4geo.eu/
The BoK is not a static artefact; it is a continuously evolving insight in the knowledge and skills within the domain. UJI is deeply involved in updating the BoK for Geographic Information and Earth Observation, as explained in the session “The Body of Knowledge as the basis for curriculum design and other activities” . We are still accepting experts who want to join the EO4GEO alliance and contribute to the update of the BoK
From our perspective and taking into account #EOSummit was taking place back-to-back with the Eyes on Earth Roadshow, having an average of 60 attendants in each session was a great success. On the other side, the recording of the sessions also intends to reach a wider audience. Video recordings can be watched at http://www.eo4geo.eu/online-2nd-earth-observation-summit/
A lot of work to do still. Stay tuned!!
