@GeoTecUJI opens the #IPIN2021 conference with an Android scheduling tutorial
Last week, our colleagues Alberto González Pérez, Miguel Matey Sanz and Sven Casteleyn held a tutorial at the 11th International Conference on Indoor Positioning and Indoor Navigation (IPIN21). The topic of the tutorial was “Battling the Android Scheduling System: How to Reliably Schedule Background Measurements in Android”, as part of the research activities of the national SyMptOMS-ET project and the H2020 Marie Sklodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network (ITN) A-WEAR.
Miguel and Alberto presented a series of guidelines for the development of Android applications that depend heavily on passive data collection tasks. Tutorial participants deployed an Android app to address a use case for tracking people or assets within buildings with Bluetooth Low-Energy (BLE) implementations. As the application skeleton and a set of preconfigured BLE beacons were already provided, participants only had to update it according to the best practices presented in the first part of the tutorial. Subsequently, the results obtained were presented.
In general, the tutorial was well received and the participants appreciated the quality of the tutorial as well as the good results obtained by the applications developed based on the presented guidelines. For those who were unable to attend in person, the tutorial code and slides are available on GitHub.
