2nd training course on @programasucre to schoolteachers – supported by #CEFIRECASTELLÓ @FECYT_CIENCIA
As a follow-up of the first edition of the CEFIRE training course on SUCRE, GEOTEC members involved in the SUCRE programme, supported by FECYT, have organised from March to May 2023 the second edition of the training course. Promoted again by CEFIRE-Castelló, this course was aimed at school teachers to show them the components and tangible resources of the Sucre4Stem product (SucreKit, SucreCore and SucreCode) as well as the new improvements of the Sucre4Kids product.
For the second edition, there was a notable legal change from the last edition of the course: the irruption of the term Computational Thinking in the new compulsory education curriculum in Spain (LOMLOE) rolled out just in the 2022-2023 academic year. Consequently, from the point of view of ESO teachers, we clarified in this course what this term means and, more importantly, what it includes, since it can be considered a kind of umbrella concept that can be subject to different interpretations.
What is computational thinking? Does it come down to knowing how to program? Does it include other aspects? How are students assessed with respect to compliance with computational thinking? What kinds of activities expose students to computational thinking? Are there resources already available that can be brought into the classroom to encourage computational thinking?
Answering these questions was central to the course. Of course, we put Sucre4Stem on the table to discuss the relationship between Sucre4Stem and computational thinking, say, through Sucre4Stem-driven classroom activities related to the computational thinking competence.
We are very grateful to the course participants for the lively discussion and fort their creative ideas for using Sucre4Stem in class activities. And thanks to CEFIRE-Castelló for trusting us and supporting us once again.
