@GEOTECUJI in AGILE 2023: workshops & tutorials
AGILE 2023 took place in beautiful Delft, the Netherlands. GEOTEC was well represented at the 2023 edition. This time, we did not present any documents, but GEOTEC members presented several workshops, a tutorial, chaired a session, co-chaired the Reproducibility Committee, and took key roles during the AGILE General Assembly.
In particular , GEOTEC members actively participated in the organisatrion of four workshops
- Urban places and regions in GIScience – concepts, methods and challenges
- GeoAI with ArcGIS
- Women in Copernicus – Equity in Copernicus ecosystem survey results
- Geospatial Education 5.0: New Paradigms for Geospatial Training and Education
The last two were the results of the corresponding AGILE Initiatives: Women in Copernicus and Geospatial Education: fit for the future. With respec to the WiC workshop, I learned a lot by listening to Vera and Caroline. The issue of gender inequalities is a complex thing,
with many different facets and dimensiones, ranging from financial, to social to family factors. WiC team identified problems and barriers in Copernicus and related geospatial fields. Are the same gender inequalities problems in Science and in other aspects of life even outside STEM fields applicable to the GIScience discipline? Put in another way, is there something special in the spatial community regarding gender inequalities? Not really.
One of the novelties that AGILE 2023 brought were the tutorials. They were part of the main conference program, unlike the workshops that were held the day before the conference. Among the three tutorials at AGILE 2023, GEOTEC had a key rol in the tutorial “Knowledge Footprints – Knowledge mapping of people and publications or simply AGILE Footprints.
