The FECYT @PROGRAMASUCRE project concludes. Thanks @FECYT_CIENCIA, @cdraltmaestrat, #SomUJI
One year ago we began the FECYT project called “¡Saca partido al pensamiento computacional con Sucre4Stem!” (grant number FCT-23-19666). Now, when the project came to end, we summarise here the main outreach activities developed to bring SUCRE products closer to schools in the region.
In late September 2024, more than two thousand people came to the Agora of the Universitat Jaume I in Castelló to participate in the new edition of Science GTS, a scientific dissemination activity within the framework of the European Researchers’ Night. Sucre team was there to showcase Sucre4Stem and Sucre4Kids to more than 500 visitors, including children and parents.
In the realm of the collaboration with the Centre for Rural Development (CDR) Alt Maestrat, GEOTEC participated in Campus Digital (July 2024) in Coves de Vinromà. About 20 participants enjoyed activities to put computational thinking at work. From October to December 2024, we also visited primary and secondary schools in Albocàsser, Catí, Els Ibarsos, and La Pobla de Tornesa. In total, almost 130 students experienced Sucre4Stem in the classroom. Thank you CDR for making these interventions possible!
Over the past years, GEOTEC has participated actively in the initiative “Conecta con la Ciencia” promoted by the Universitat Jaume I. On October and November 2024, we visited Puerto de Sagunto, Vinaroz and Morella. A total of 166 students aged 15-16 years learned about science and technology through Sucre4Stem.
Primary and secondary school teachers are also target users of Sucre4Stem. We visited Vall d’Alba and Els Ibarsos in spring 2025 to help them introduce Sucre4Stem into the classroom as part of the curriculum.
Finally, we published an article in IEEE Transactions on Education, titled “Sucre4Stem: A K-12 Educational Tool for Integrating Computational Thinking and Programming Across Multidisciplinary Subjects,” exploring the latest developments and innovations in Sucre4Stem.
Looking back, the year (July 2024 and July 2025) has been a year full of activities with Sucre4Stem. We reached more than 800 schoolchildren in rural areas, through more than 40 workshops in nine different locations.
Thanks to everyone who made this possible: FECYT, UJI, CDR, GVA, and all current and former GEOTEC members who collaborated on the SUCRE program, and, of course, to all the participants, children and teachers, who trusted us.
