Scientific talks: Indoor positioning and tracking system
This week Alejandro Correa, from a research group at the UAB on outdoor and indoor positioning & WSN, visited us and gave a short talk about his doctoral work. He is working on new method to enhance accuracy in indoor positioning using WSN. He is developing his PhD thesis in the context of the 3SENS project, Ambient Assisted Living, to by combining user’s indoor positioning and patterns recognition to monitor elderly daily activities at their homes.
Alejandro explained us his method called hybrid indoor pedestrian tracking system. It basically enhances accuracy by combining indoor positioning (based on Received Signal Strength) and measurements from inertial sensors, taking into account that most taken measurements have different degrees of uncertainty. The latter is a real issue that he sorted it out by using convenient machine learning techniques.
