Sucre4Kids is an educational R&D project that advances the Sucre programme (Sense yoUr Context and REact) by bringing screen-free, tangible programming to children aged 5–11 (early childhood and primary education). The project starts from an early prototype (TRL4) and aims to mature the solution up to TRL7, demonstrating it in real classroom environments through structured interventions and gamified mini-projects.

The design is structured around three main pillars:

Tangible programming with NFC “SucreCards”.
Children create programs by manipulating NFC cards (SucreCards) that represent computational thinking concepts. The project defines two learning levelselementary (5–7) and advanced (8–11)—to adapt difficulty to developmental stages.

An upgraded IoT device for education: SucreCore + SucreKit.
The central device (SucreCore) is enhanced (hardware + software) to support classroom-ready use, including NFC reading (and features such as improved connectivity) so that SucreCards can be interpreted reliably and immediately reflected in the behaviour of sensors/actuators.

Teaching resources, validation in schools, and measurable impact.
The project produces teacher/student materials (paper + digital) and validates Sucre4Kids through classroom cycles and outreach actions. The evaluation plan includes concrete KPIs such as number of participating schools, teachers, and students (e.g., targets like 12 schools, 30 teachers, 4,900 students).
