“GIS Day provides an international forum for users of geographic information systems (GIS) technology to demonstrate real-world applications that are making a difference in our society”, so GeotecUJI, as we did some years ago, decided to participate and join the international community of GIS experts, users and friends.

For this GIS Day edition we decided to organise an exhibition showing different posters about on-going projects the group has, such as GEO-C, Fabspace 2.0, EO4GEO, ENAbLE or Senviro . We also organised demo projections about some other past projects as ERMES, and current ones SmartUJI or Copernicus Academy. Video projections and poster exhibition was organised in the hall of the Engieering and Sciences Faculty, in order to catch up the attention of students and professors, as well, having the opportunity of explaining our initiatives and projects more in detail.

In paralell, and in cojunction with the Master in Geospatial Technologies, our student Eliza Shresta organised “Make Castellon Data Better Mapathon”. The aim of the mapathon was to validate OpenStreetMap road features of Castellon Municipality and mark important features needed during or after disaster occurrence. The analysis of the results of the Mapathon will be included in Eliza’s Master thesis to be defended next year. Some pics from the Mapathon, with more than 20 participants!!
