The annual “Practica a l’UJI” event is an institucional programme to promote the portfolio of study programmes offered by the Universitat Jaume I to high school students, who will be university students in one or two years.

The 2022 edition of the “Practica a l’UJI” programme is the fifth edition for the SUCRE team. This year, our outreach activity with Sucre4Stem was included in the agenda of the degrees of Computer Science and Intelligent Robotics. In previous editions (2017 , 2018 , 2019 and 2020) , we only took part of the activities related to the Computer Science degree. This year we doubled our presence and held twice as many sessions as in previous years.

In total, we held 8 sessions (4 per study programme) of our outreach activity with Sucre4Stem in 4 days. This activity was scheduled as part of the dissemination plan prepared by our last FECYT-funded project (grant number FCT-19-15198, Sucre4Kids: Educación computacional para fomentar la disciplinas CTIM).

The outreach activity first consists of presenting the main elements of Sucre4Stem, the SucreKit (sensors, actuators, and a microcontroller called SucreCore) and the SucreCode (the web-based block-driven programming tool). Figures below show the SucreKit and its contained elements (SucreCore is the white 3D-printed case).

The activity continues with the exploration of of programming constructs through the SucreCode tool. Participants in groups develop some guided projects (wiring + programming) and finally they are encouraged to create their own projects.
