@albgonper visits @udominho as PhD research stay: @GEOTECUJI abroad!
Our colleague Alberto González Pérez has recently started a research stay at the Centre Algoritmi, Universidade do Minho, Portugal, with Dr. Adriano Moreira as his supervisor.
Alberto will be investigating there the possibilities of expanding his work carried out at SyMptOMS and during his doctoral thesis. He will learn new indoor positioning techniques that can take advantage of a wide range of contextualised information to be applied to mental health treatments, for example, patients with depression who spend a lot of time and/or carry out their activities at home or other indoor environments.
He also expects to bring his recent advancements in reliable data collection using Android smartphones to the host group. In indoor positioning techniques, i.e., Wi-Fi or Bluetooth fingerprinting, systematic data collection is key and Alberto’s (and the rest of the SyMptOMS team) latest contribution “Using mobile devices as scientific measurement instruments: Reliable android task scheduling”, published as open access article in the Elsevier journal Pervasive and Mobile Computing, is one big step in this direction.
We wish Alberto a happy and very productive stay!
